Cetirizine (Zyrtec) Overdose, 2x the usual amount, one this morning, one now.
#11
Our vet told us to give our one dog with the sniffles Zyrtec to see if it was allergy related. The vet dosage was 10 mg per 10 kg of dog weight; we give her 3 pills in the morning.

Makes me wonder how well it's working for me -- taking one pill every 24 hours; and I'm 4 times heavier than the dog...

As others have mentioned, not likely to do much of anything except maybe make him sleepy... the nonsedating antihistamines can do that, especially if taken nonstop or at higher-than-recommended dosages. That being said, my own doc suggested I double-up on two antihistamines: Zyrtec in the AM, and Claritin or possibly Allegra in the PM.

That's what I do Peter B. Allegra at night, Zyrtec in the morning. Generic from Costco, of course.

Space - I assume your little guy is OK ?

[spoiler=Another personal story with accidental near self-injury (LOL)]
As an asthmatic teenager, I often was prescribed Prednisone in a descending scale to resolve acute attacks. So at about lunch I took the 'morning' dose of 10 pills. Then at dinner I took the 'evening' dose of about 10 pills. Except I'd had lunch kind of late, about 2. And dinner kind of early, about 6. By 6:30 PM my heart rate exceeded 250 BPM, my blood pressure was insane, and I was sweating buckets and panicking. So I went running. Probably ran about 10 miles, breaking the 4 minute mile on each one. My memories are mostly 'flying'. By 7:15 I was home, took a shower, and went to bed. Later I learned that I really should have gone to the hospital, because I could have damaged my heart.

That's what I've considered doing, I just know that if I do, I will be big-time sluggo, especially at night. For most people, that might not be an issue, but I'm a definite night owl...
