Need Cat6 Cable - 250-1000 feet...
#1
We are ordering a new switch at work. It's a Linksys 48-port 10/100 + 4-Port Gigabit Switch. So, we are going to run 2-4 Cat6 lines down to our server. Where is the best place to get BULK cable online? I'll be checking Home Depot and Lowe's today. I also need cat6 RJ45 ends. Will ALL RJ45 ends work the same?

Full twisted pair. Guaranteed for 1000mb/s (gigabit) instead of most CAT5 which is only guaranteed for 100mb/s (100base-t)

About 5.2 cents per foot....

No idea if they're the cheapest... but I've been buying from Cyberguys for a few years now and I've been happy with their service... and they ship FAST to where I am, so that's a bonus for me.

At least gives you a "data point" for price comparisons..

Cat6 can run at higher frequencies over longer runs. That allows for Gigabit connections, and higher gigabit speeds over long runs.

Buying the cable, just browse around online, I'd suggest Pricewatch and Froogle to help a bit.

I bought my last set of the connectors from Monoprice.

They have the cable, too.

One thing about the connectors, there's a type that is like an RJ45/RJ11 hybrid (so you wouldn't need to keep stock of both jacks). The hybrid connectors are not Mac Compatible. (At least not easily. None of the systems I've tried with them have worked easily).

Geeks.com is out of the budget CAT5e kits. Monoprice is as good or better for CAT6 than the half dozen other places I have bookmarked.

Oh, if it is under 100 feet, it will be cheaper to buy 4 long patch cables from monoprice than to buy a full roll of cable unless you expect to use it in the near future.

I think cat5E is rated to only 355 Mb/sec (or something close to it)
