SOTU - America tuned out
#1
Interest in the State of the Union address under President Obama continued to decline Tuesday, as his final such speech to the nation dipped from last year for the annual event’s smallest tune-in since Nielsen began tracking viewership in the early 1990s.

Even lower than Clinton's farewell address.

I sincerely doubt that viewership has anything to do with which party is in power. It's probably related to the growth of the anti-government tea party and the expansion of anti-government propaganda that has supported that growth. Why would folks who want to tear down the government want to listen to a speech about how the government is doing?

When things are going well, nobody watches. In a crisis, everybody watches.

He won while everybody else lost to him. That's all that matters.

If you don't win. Then you go home.

Faster to read - same reason I don't watch podcasts, but wait for the transcript instead.

This is true, but there is so much more to communication than just the words. If you just read it you only get about half the message that was being conveyed.

Both Obama and Haley attacked Trump in their speeches. Haley's comments were approved by the Republican leaders in Congress and the party chairman, and the right wing loonies snapped back.

As for ratings, liberals aren't afraid of science. There were likely several more decimal points worth, watching in some fashion (OTT/stream/podcast/etc.) that didn't register in the Nielsen system.
