Hotel recommendation for Pittsburgh?
#1
can someone recommend a hotel in Pittsburgh? here is the details:

ideally within walking distance to Pitt/CMU, but a short drive (20 minutes) is also OK. 20 minutes with morning/evening rush-hour traffic.

Wife will be attending a conference in May and I decided to take the kids and go along, it's been a long time since I have been there. I lived in Pittsburgh for about 5 years, but I never had to use any hotels there, so I don't know which hotels are good and which are to be avoided. Also a lot has probably changed in the 15+ years since I left. I want a safe area of course. I am thinking to take the kids to Phipps conservatory, Andy Warhol museum, to hit some of the Carnegie Museums and just connect with old friends I hope to find alive and well.

I have ZERO interest in any baseball / ice hokey games going on while in town. Don't even mention Pirates, Penguins, Steelers or Panthers.

There is this one for about $120-ish per night but reviews on Yelp are not that good.

Residence Inn Pittsburgh University/Medical Center
3896 Bigelow Boulevard Pittsburgh Pennsylvania 15213 USA

I am thinking about Hyatt, which seems to have better reviews even though it is about $200 per night

I always just stay with my parents. Sorry. They're out of town though.

Anything in the East End will meet your needs. The hotels on Bigelow are right in the middle of the Pitt area, and a few blocks from CMU. Walking distance from Carnegie Museum and Phipps.

A bit cheaper is down at the Waterfront (several to choose from), and convenient to shopping and restaurants and free parking.

If you want an interesting experience, this B&B is run by a friend of mine.

He's restoring an 1860s mansion. Gorgeous woodwork. Not the nicest neighborhood (it's gone downhill in the past 150 years), but a building you'll never forget.

May be more than you want to pay (guessing it's $200-300) but we stayed at the Wyndam Grand last fall, and it was just the right thing for a getaway weekend with the kids. Close to the river (and the stadiums I know you're not interested in), but that leaves a lot of other things in walking distance as well. We walked almost everywhere, and while Pitt/CMU would probably have been walkable, we took the short drive (10 min?) because we knew we'd be doing plenty of walking on the other end.

interesting, but it seems only 2 guests/1 bed. We definitely need more space.

The William Penn hotel is elegant and very nice, if the style suits you.
