Buy (purchase) it again.
Say you lost all your purchases and beg them to redownload it all. You supposedly get one of these during your life.

you know, that's ridiculous. In this day and age, with computers what they are, and with the DRM built into iTunes and the ITMS, there's no reason that they couldn't just let you re-download the piece again. Any piece that you've bought. After all, it's playable only on a computer YOU'VE authorized.
As an example of this, they have the Apple Store. My account there lists, under "Downloadable Software Purchases" the MPEG-2 playback plugin. I bought it 12/17/2004. And guess what? I can download it AGAIN. As often as I like. This is not a stretch, and frankly is inexcusable for the ITMS not to offer this. This position of Apple's is not defensible.

If the download did not complete, you can OF COURSE re-download it. Just click "Check for Purchases" under the "Store" menu.
If, otoh, you lost something because you didn't back it up, then consider that a $1.99 lesson in becoming a sensible computer owner. Cheap at twice the price.

I agree with Elmo, I can't see a reason why Apple can't over the ability to redownload itunes purchases.
but I did just take advantage of the back up feature of 4.7 and backed up everything.

I heard it is part of the contracts with the music companies.
