Macbook 1.83 vs 2.0

Just wondering if there is a significant performance boost between the two?
Any difference besides the .17Ghz and the superdrive? refurb 1.83 $949 2.0 $1099 I don't think I need a super drive in a small portable. gg

I have had both a 1.83 and a 2.0 MBP, I couldn't tell much difference at all. A Superdrive can be a very handy thing to have though.

generally with computers you need something to be at least 2x as fast to notice the speed difference. a 170Mhz difference is nothing.

Buy either from Amazon and get a new one for less when you calculate the taxes in Most states.

Put the breaks on that purchase, IMHO.
Wait for the Core 2 Duo equipped update. Will be the same money or less for what is so much faster. The iMacs got updated to the Core 2 Duo a month ago, It's got to be pretty darn soon (surprised not already done as Dell and laptop makers done). the price went down, the speeds went up and the performance with the Core 2 went way up. Core 2 Duo is a 64 bit processor vs. Core Duo only 32 bit. My 2c

It might be a good idea to wait but if you don't it won't be any big deal. The mags that have actually gotten a hold of production machines say about a 7% speed bump and the same or worse batt life.

Larry I have been thinking the same thing. My hunch is the Macbook Pro will get the Core 2 duo and the Macbook will stay the same. Kind of like the imac vs the mini.
A price reduction would always be nice though. I just need to get something that will run XP for my daughters School needs. gg

Think of it this way: If any new mac portable gets the core 2 duo, the others will either go down in price or get a bump of their own. So waiting could net you a macbook for less than todays amazon or refurb prices.
My question is what is real benefit for the black macbook? Is the case really more durable? Don't worry, I'll search the forum... PS: Don't you just hate TLAs? |
