Can the Seagate GoFlex Thunderbolt Adapter STAE121 be used with a 3.5" drive?

Can this be used with a 3.5" bare drive or does the backing physically prevent that?

2.5 and 3.5 SATA drives share the same type/size of connectors. so I can't imagine it wouldn't work. Worth a shot, in any case. All those drive docks like this one: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/VU3ESFW8/ support both 2.5 and 3.5, using the same connector inside the dock.

Nope, 3.5" drives need power.

But it would work with a SSD.

[pedant]2.5" drives need power, too. The data connection provides sufficient power (usually), though.[/pedant]

Looks like it has a power cable, so it should work.

I love having a dock for bare drives, since I have so many anymore.

I like the ORICO sleds:

Just bought a couple more when they were on sale for $14.
