FedEX home delivery with signature? (ebay related)
#1
I just sold an item that I want to have signed for at the destination, but I don't see that as an option when reviewing the invoice. Is there a way to select this or must I go around ebay to ship the item? Signature is very important to me for this, as I think I have a skittish buyer.

It used to be a REQUIREMENT on items valued at over $250 - seller HAD to buy signature option AND insurance. Not sure if that's still the rule, but I follow it anyway. I never ship fedex ground - USPS and UPS both have that option within ebay or paypal shipping.

Hal, what do you recommend for a shipping option? This item is large-ish and about 40lbs, and valued just under $250

I use UPS for such things.

UPS is what I use for those. Sign up for an account if you don't have one.

I have no idea how to do it in ebay, but FedEx Home has three different signature options if you do it through FedEx directly.

I believe the requirement for signature is $750 now, but don't take my word for it. The eBay invoice has nothing to do with selecting a signature requirement. You'd do that when you make the shipping label.

HOWEVER, if you didn't mention that you would have a signature requirement in your listing, it might tick your buyer off. I've had sellers ship me $40, and $100 items with signature requirements, and then Ihave to go pick them up at the post office. Or if they do "direct signature" requirement, then I have to go pick them up at FedEx or UPS since I'm not at home during the day.

So, as a seller, if I want to do a signature and forgot to mention it, I'll ship what I think will be the most convenient. You could ask the buyer what shipper they prefer, or research their address. For instance, if it looks like a business, then it probably doesn't matter, but if it's a home, you might want to ship FedEx Home, which will deliver on Saturdays so the buyer can sign for it. Or figure out which shipper has a pick up location closest to their house if needed (I had one buyer complain about how far they had to go to get a package, and likewise picking up UPS signature packages is a pain for me, but FedEx is easy).

Gareth, good points. I will ask him what he wants to do. I did not put a signature requirement in the listing, but I want to make sure that there is a way to confirm receipt.
