Seagate RMA... they sent me brand new drives
#1
I sent 2 2TB Backup Plus Slim and one 4TB backup plus FAST and I was a little concerned that it was taking so long this time, but instead of refurbs, they sent brand new, sealed retail packs, recently manufactured.

Not sure if this is new policy or what, but there you have it.

Can you check warranty status on the replacement drives? I would expect the remaining warranty to be based on the manufacture date of the bad drive you sent them, but maybe they'll be from when the replacements were made.

Thanks for asking - I almost brushed off the question. These are new, sealed packages - different serial numbers than what I sent them.

But I just checked the Fast drive and the warranty is only good through AUG 2017. It was the only one that I had obtained as used.

I just remembered - the drive had only 4 days of warranty when I generated the RMA. Just under the wire...

Sounds like they give the remaining warranty or 90 days whichever is longer.
