I Give up on understanding credit scores
#1
this morning I was notified by three different free services, Credit Karma, Transunion and my bank, that a collection account was added to my credit report. So I check it out and after an hour, determine it's a medical bill from last year. $64 and I thought I paid it but turns out I had two bills for the exact same amount from the same "E-MED services".

My credit score went up 33 points on Trans union and 34 points on Equifax.

My wife accidentally charged the second half of our vacation to a credit card and it went over the limit by $4.

Her score dropped 40, near instantly.

We paid the card... they say 60-90 days to restore credit numbers.

Just live your life and IGNORE your "I love going into debt" score...

You'll be happier.

There was a settlement with the 3 big credit agencies that changed the way that medical collections appear on credit reports. They have to wait 180 days now and also when they are paid the report comes off rather than messing up credit for a long time.

By the way, for anybody who hasn't yet frozen their credit, it's going to be a free process starting Sept. 21. Please freeze! It only takes a few minutes to thaw and refreeze if/when you want new credit: https://clark.com/personal-finance-credi...haw-guide/

But, if you freeze you HAVE to keep track of the pin or it's apparently a mess to get a replacement.

Freeze prevents people from reading your report without your permission but creditors still add information to it.
