Had a pain last Wednesday. Thursday Morning went to ER. Had CT Scan. Diverticulitis. IV Antibiotics and pain stuff. Dr asked if I wanted Morphine, I said no.
Been taking 2 antibiotics twice a day, for 10 days. And even though the sore spot in lower left quadrant gas remnant of the pain, it is 70% better, maybe more.
So I picked up some Gummy Bear things with no sugar, that are suppose to help with fiber.
Glad I chose ER, as they said if I had went to my primary care dr, or Urgent Care, they would have sent me to ER anyway.
When ER dr got results of Cat Scan, he said they though my two tubes connecting to kidneys looked full, so they also ordered a UltraSound. I did that , and will see dr on Friday.
It literally is a PAIN, getting old

Mrs. cbelt3 has suffered from this off and on much of her life. It's no damn fun. I keep a supply of 'safe' foods.. usually soups.. on hand when she has a flare up.

welcome to the fun! I had the pain off and on for 20+ years.
At the first sign I drink Plum juice and that usually nips the pain in the bud.

My father had it and didn't deal with it soon enough, ended up needing an operation and a temporary colostomy bag. Hope yours is easier. Nothing to mess around with. Best of luck.

Almost died from it two years ago. Went to ER with stomach pain, took a while, but diagnosed as diverticulitis. Spent 5 days in the hospital on antibiotics. Seemed to be doing better, so they sent me home. Woke up that night with different kind of pain, went back to ER the next morning. Kept getting worse as the day went on, and they finally decided to operate. When they got me open, the doctor said my entire abdomen was infected. His exact words were "it was like a vat of pus" (sorry for that visual). He said most people in that situation do not survive. They ended up taking out my entire sigmoid colon.
Thankfully, I was otherwise healthy, so my body fought it pretty hard. Spent 9 more days in the hospital, lost 30 pounds in those 9 days, and went home with the temporary colostomy bag. Was out of work for 3 full months, and then two months of mostly telework. Went back after a little over 3 months for reattachment. Other than multiple hematomas in my abdomen caused by stitches that were supposed to dissolve but never did (leading to yet another surgery to remove said stitches over a year later), I've been ok. I take a teaspoon of metamucil every morning, but otherwise I have no dietary restrictions. When I went in originally, they said I'd probably get flare ups once a year or so. So in some ways, I'm glad they removed the section of colon where the problems were.

A client just went through surgery for that. And then another apparently less major surgery.

Runs in my family. I've had a mild case - and I wouldn't want to see what a severe one is like.
