That's just it -- the average non-savvy Mac user might think it is genuine... they wouldn't realize that Apple wouldn't ask for passwords like that, and it's actually pretty scary that the malware makers are emulating legitimate OS requests.

I believe the real Apple permission prompt would only require a password, not the username

Forrest, doubtful that "Apple" would request a password, rather it should be "Mac OS X" ... and yeah, it wouldn't ask for your username...

If you're logged in under a standard user account, an app or the OS may request the username and password of an admin to complete an install.

But ordinarily it'd show the app-name, not "Apple." Got any apps named "Apple?"
