Multiple flight cancellations reported at George Bush airport amid storms in Houston
.....Multiple flights out of George Bush Intercontinental Airport have been cancelled amid ongoing storms in the Houston area, according to fly2houston.com.
A large portion of the flights were destined for others parts of Texas. The cancellations stranded hundreds of passengers at the airport since Sunday night, according to OnScene TV.
Footage from inside the airport shows stacks of unclaimed bags sitting on the carousels and hundreds of people waiting in line to get more flight information.
It's unclear whether all of the cancellations were related to the storms. United Airlines reported the majority of the cancellations, and airline officials said they are allowing customers to change their flight at no cost.
"We continue to monitor the weather at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and are working to get impacted customers to their destinations as quickly as possible," United spokeswoman Rachael Rivas said.
"We've issued a travel waiver for those traveling today through IAH - customers can change their flight at no cost on our mobile app or by calling us. We encourage customers to visit our app or united.com for the latest information about their flight."
United responded to dozens of passengers on Twitter this morning, saying they are experiencing a higher customer service call volume than usual.
A few American Airlines flights were also cancelled.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will remain possible through this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
The cancelled outgoing flights were destined for Texas cities that include Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Killeen, Harlingen and Laredo. Flights going to Denver, Newark, Chicago, Miami and Cleveland were also cancelled.
