Elderly Colorado man found alive 3 days after car crashed into river by Grandson in Kayak
#1
"A man reported missing Monday evening on the Western Slope was found Wednesday by his grandson, who was in a kayak on the San Miguel River as part of a search team. The 82-year-old had been lying along a bank on the river."

"The car, in leaving the road, had gone through brush and growth along the roadside, hiding the vehicle from teams that had been searching for McLeroy, the sheriff’s office said."

"Ethan Archer, McLeroy’s grandson, searched the river by kayak as his father, Ivan, followed the kayak in a vehicle on the highway. Archer spotted McLeroy and alerted his father, who then alerted authorities."

Very fortunate! But it would have been easier and quicker to use Find Friends or Find My iPhone.

LOTS of mountainous areas get LITTLE to NO cell coverage. In areas with heavy vegetation, a GPS signal could easily be blocked as well.

Last year, while I was driving across WY, I had 3 ~ 4 HOURS of ZERO cell coverage on both my Verizon & T-Mobile phones. :oldfogey:

I had a similar experience in MT, twice, but it was only 2-3hrs. There was GPS though so that was something.
