Apple probably did a LOT more testing of going from iOS 12 to 13 than they did for 13 to 13.

Did 2 XRs (from a 7 and a 6) and a SE from an SE, all with the steps I mentioned above. Perfect every time, like you never even knew it was a new phone...

I though you meant your *new* phone was going to be the XS Max, since its still only a year old.

But now I see you are trading the XS Max for 11 Pro Max, got it.

Since it is that new and you are just turning it in, I see no benefit to doing so. It is just going to be wiped anyway.

Does it make any difference?

Apparently, we don't know. It may not matter at all.

I think if your XS Max is working OK now, to minimize the possibility of a problem leave it as is.

If it's required to update the old 'Phone first, you'll get a notification to do so.

Me, I'd update now to save that few minutes of time and play with a new OS a whole one day early.

I’m going to go to ios13 on this old iPhone X then backup and restore to the new iPhone. I am hoping it means all passwords etc migrate forward. This X was setup new so I’m hoping not too many legacy issues to carry forward.

I know most of you aren’t thrilled with the new iPhone but I’m excited for the camera! My phone is coming tomorrow so should I update the old phone prior to synching the new?

Kate

The new iPhones are the best iPhones ever.

Not if you are already on an X. Doing the whole side by side/icloud transfer thing is like magic.

I want to keep my Dropbox legacy tag on my iPhone. We will see whether it’s worth the effort.

I’m also old-fashioned and keep iPhone archives and backups. Maybe not needed today but it’s a habit.
