I need the real estate - but yeah 32 in is BIG.

There's a lot to be said for having two monitors.

Even one 27" at 2560x1440 would give you a ton more display real estate in one package without the imposing physical real estate of a 32" monitor.

But you want what you want and/or need what you need.

i shoulda bought the one you linked.

That would be kind of an impulse buy, wouldn't ya think?

I haven't bought a monitor from AMZ, but I did my my 24" iMac from them (proper) and the packaging was marginal and may have lead to many problems only Apple Care could (and did) fix.

So this is a big red flag for me:

Item arrives in packaging that
reveals what's inside.
To hide it,
choose Ship in Amazon
packaging
at checkout.

The AMZ packaging option doesn't instill confidence in me.

My Dell U2711 looked like it was packed to survive an air drop without without a parachute, where the AMZ box looked like it had been air dropped without a parachute.

That said, for $200 I'd consider the Philips, if it's visual impact was as good as my 27" LED ACD or better. I wouldn't expect it to be close to my 27" 5K iMac.

But I want a good 32" monitor to replace my 27" LED ACD. Anything in between that and the 5K's performance and I'd be happy.

PROS
Accurate and vivid out-of-box color
75Hz refresh rate
FreeSync
Solid video processing
Decent build quality
Good value

CONS
No USB ports
[emphasis mine]
No speakers
Tilt-only stand

The review mentions but doesn't list as a con, that it has an VA panel, which they say:

Viewing angles
typically better than
TN, worse than IPS;
Good color;
Best contrast;
Best image depth

VERDICT

The Philips 326E8F leaves out a few non-essentials, like USB ports, speakers and a fancy stand. But it delivers bold and accurate color, excellent contrast and smooth video processing via FreeSync and 75Hz. Breaking price barriers for 32-inch screens, it’s definitely worth a serious look.

I'm almost talking myself into that display.

I don't know how much a similarly bare bones IPS monitor would cost.
