Paging Paul F....

... have you had any experience with storing donuts for later consumption?

StillTasty suggests that they can be frozen and last for 2-3 months:

... of course, "still safe to eat" doesn't necessarily translate into "still want to eat". Big Grin

... asking for a friend, of course. A friend who might have happened to buy, shall we say, two dozen... :yum:

yes, they're fine frozen. For months. Of course, they rarely last months in our house :-) Pop one in the microwave for 20 seconds and they're just like new!

Good to know. What about the cream-filled variety? My, uh, friend forgot that they're supposed to be refrigerated, and of course the cream-filled ones weren't in the fridge.

Also, I wonder if the glaze on some of them gets kind of sticky after freeze/thawing ... if you're microwaving, then I'd imagine it melts?

They should be good frozen over a year. I would thaw them in the fridge or maybe overnight on the counter. Just don't beat them up too fast.

I wouldn't try for more than 3 months unless it was in a well sealed box/bag.

Oh, I should have mentioned, my -cough- friend did not buy these at the supermarket, but rather at this place: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_R...siana.html

(Warning, do not look unless you plan on acquiring calories through your eyeballs. You've been warned. Big Grin )

No idea about the glazing, but I'd imagine neither real nor fake cream filling would respond well to microwaving or indeed any kind of heating. My guess is that upon heating any kind of cream filling would revert to whatever liquid goo it was whipped from originally.
