That's very true, I was in a moderate accident once where my front bumper hit the side of another car (his fault) and after the hit I found lots of little things on the floor I thought I had lost. Guess the impact really shook loose the debris. Luckily nothing very large in the back to come at me hard. I had a friend with a fully loaded jeep who put a guitar case on top of everything (which was above the headrest on the passenger side), he had to brake hard and the case flew forward, broke the windshield. Good for him it wasn't on the drivers side, and there were no passengers.
