I don't believe that has stopped 3rd party manufacturers before. Maybe they just haven't figured out the reverse engineering yet. Tamron making lenses for there Sony E Mount is a definite plus as Sony lenses are pretty pricy.

That's my understanding as well, that Canon and Nikon mounts are reverse engineered. I wouldn't have that RF and Z mount protocols would be all that different, but maybe they are?
I believe Sony actually provides 3rd party manufacturers with protocol information for E-mount.
I am not sure about Sony’s arrangement. If true, Sony is betting that 3rd party lenses can increase their platform popularity. Canon and Nikon are trying to protect their lens sales. I predict Sony will increase their MILC popularity at the expense of their competition.
