Seems I did it in Big Sur somehow. When I googled it, it tells me to simply uncheck a box in Safari preferences which I don't seem to have.
How do I remove the Safari browser window "color" in Monterrey?

I don't have a Monterey Mac nearby at the moment to check this... I think the advanced option to display colored tabs has been replaced by the Tabs > Compact/Separate view options. One view has a colored tab bar. The other does not.

So here is the screenshot I found...
![]() I did, at some point, change this. In Big Sur or Catalina, or whatever OS I was running when this option became available. So I guess I was using Safari 15 as the article states. However, now in Big Sur (and Monterrey), I've noticed that checkbox is gone. So while my "no color" header in Big Sur remains, a new install of Monterrey doesn't give me the option to change it. And, at least in Big Sur, switching from Compact to Separate seems to have no effect on the color.

Try Accessibility > Advanced.
Apple hides a lot of settings under Accessibility, why, I'll never know. Maybe it's there.

I had the opportunity to test this today. Selecting the "Separate" view in the Tabs options provides the traditional gray window-toolbar/tab-bar.

This is what it looked like when I switched to Separate view... ![]() Left is Apple (with the light ground) and right is Plex (with the dark ground) I also poked around Accessibility and found that if I click "Reduce Transparency" it will sort of do what I want. But I kind of like the semi-transparent menu bar. So then I went BACK to Safari and looked around to see if I missed something. I also checked here again and saw your post. Went back to Safari and switched it from Compact to Seperate. Still no change. Then I a few minutes later I noticed that it HAD changed. This time. So I don't know WHAT is going on. But at least it SEEMS to be working. So far.

Possible you just have dark-mode enabled in the System Preferences > General settings?
