I'm looking for an app that would let me use an iPhone as a remote camera, controlled by my shop computer, to take pics of the inside of guitars. One I'm aware of, Lonely Screen, looks like it would fit the bill, but I refuse to pay $15 a year for a small app. Any others?

I don't have an answer for you. Your post did teach me hat there is an app for that though.

pRICE, I did find lonelyscreen, which was described as working well, though with a $15/yr subscription, and has full function as a free version. But their latest update was in 2015. It's still a 32-bit app.

Have you tried connecting iPhone to your computer, and use Photo Booth, or maybe Image Capture? Then grab a screen shot?
I know that you can view the iPhone screen as an embedded media object in Keynote, just not sure if that would also work for the iPhone camera. Would likely be limited to the resolution of the iPhone screen, which would be lower than the actual camera resolution.
