Powerball jackpot grows to estimated $1 billion, second highest ever

....Powerball's estimated jackpot has surpassed $1 billion for only the second time after no one matched all five numbers and the red ball on a $2 ticket to claim the $825 million prize Saturday night.

The next Powerball drawing is Monday with numbers also selected on Wednesdays. The Monday date was added on Aug. 23, 2021.

Saturday's winning numbers were: 19, 31, 40, 46, 57, with a Powerball 23.

In Saturdays drawing, seven tickets matched five numbers, but not the Powerball, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. Also, six tickets won a $1 million prize, and one ticket sold in Florida won $2 million in the Power Play feature.

The jackpot was last hit on Aug. 3 when a ticket in Pennsylvania earned $206.9 million. There have now been 37 consecutive drawings without a winner, according to Powerball.

The largest this year was $632.6 million on Jan. 5 and split by winners in California and Wisconsin.

The largest Powerball jackpot was $1.586 billion on Jan. 13, 2016, which was shared shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee.......

One of my two tickets had the Powerball number. Just the single Powerball number. So that $4 paid for my ticket – or more likely my next two. What I found interesting is that's the same payout as the single Powerball number and one other number. Go figure.

No one has claimed the $1.3 billion winner from last July yet.

My kid just asked me to buy her a ticket since she can't in AL. So, do I buy 2 and designate one for her and one for us or buy 2 and call them "ours" to be split if either one wins? Hmmm. I guess that at a billion there's enough to share between our 2 families!

Yes, they have, last month, just before the lump sum deadline. https://fortune.com/2022/09/21/2-people-...t-lottery/#

I don't know, man...after possible multiple-winners & taxes, you may have barely a couple hundred million.

Not really worth the effort.

If one wins a $B, they should also be awarded the same tax breaks other billionaires get.

And when I play a $B lottery, I'll buy five winning tickets, to keep a larger slice of the pie.

No need to be greedy.
