Went to see Ant Man and Shazam last week
#1
Finally starting to feel better and last week was the first time I ventured far from home for any amount of time.

First, I had heard both movies were bad, so I didn't have much hope...

I thought Ant Man was solid. It rates a good B/B+. Was it an epic? No, but it provided 2 hours of escape, where my suspension of disbelief wasn't asked to snort coke and bungie jump off a bridge.

The weakest part, imo, was the actor who played Kang. And, maybe this is a more general criticism of superhero movies in general, but if you have a bad guy, make him bad. Kang comes across as lame, where the reality of his evil doesn't match his on screen actions, which seem to be a bunch of threats that he can't seem to carry out. Less talk, more evil.

A cheap matinee, some popcorn, and 2 hours of Antman being mostly Giganticman was a nice way to spend my first extended trip from home since getting sick.

Shazam. Once again, is this movie at the level of the original Wonder Woman, Iron Man or Captain America? No, but it is a solid B/B- action movie.

The main criticism I have of Shazam, is that Billy Batson is portrayed as much more mature than Shazam, who often seems "infantile" in comparison. Shazam has the wisdom of the gods, yet the writers made him look mentally stunted at times.

The action is good and the bad "guys" are actually interesting. Two hours of escapism, that won't cause your suspension of disbelief to go into convulsions.

Well, you might not be seeing him in any future movies...

You forgot your #guiltyuntilproveninnocent tag!

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III star Jonathan Majors' accuser has reportedly recanted her accusations against the actor.

Per IndieWire, Majors' criminal defense attorney Priya Chaudhry provided a statement outlining the situation. Chaudrhy noted, "Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows. We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently."

Effective use of the DARVO strategy.

Victim recants quite often under that kind of pressure. Recanting is common enough that it's grouped as a symptom under "rape trauma syndrome."

Walkthrough of how this has every element of a classic DARVO case:

Buy hey! Maybe he didn't assault anyone.

Regardless, his lawyers and the studio dogs were on her so quickly and effectively that she'll never have a moment's peace in her life again, and that many fewer women will have the guts to come forward in the future.

Which was their intention.

This.

Recant does not mean 'it didn't happen', just as a verdict of 'Not Guilty' doesn't mean the defendant didn't commit the crime charged.

Just because someone claims they didn't commit any crime doesn't mean they're telling the truth.

While I always first lean to the 'innocent until proven guilty' belief, I know that victims of rape or any sexual assault are almost without exception cast as 'asking for it', 'lying' or are otherwise blamed.

There have been women who have falsified rape or sexual assault charges, but not so many that I'm not wary of a suspect's cries of 'I'm innocent/it was consensual/etc.

So may I hope the woman is lying.

I'm more comfortable with that then her telling the truth and not being believed.
