Speaking of "plastic evil lizard men in human suits"...

I was waiting for an opportunity to post this, and cbelt3's prose in the thread below gives me the perfect, apropos opportunity to do so.

I ran across this great article on one of my favorite series from the 1980s. Ordinarily I'd post it on the other side, but it brings up some very important political issues that remain relevant today. When you read it, you'll see the relevance to cbelt3's comment:

... how incredibly sad that the one segment of American society that should really see the irony of this series -- that it was about a fascist regime, instead chooses to see in it, literally, a conspiracy of lizard people...

The Invaders 1967

“…attempting to warn the human public about alien infiltration,”

“…the aliens' success in hiding…”

“They appear human except for a few telltale characteristics…”

“…the constant tension over whether the individuals Vincent comes across are humans or aliens…”

“In the 2002 Argentinian movie Kamchatka, which is set in 1976, the protagonists watch an episode on TV and there is an analogy between the invaders and the events of the Argentine military dictatorship of the 1970s.”

FWIW … I have been using that phrase since I met Richard Nixon when he was running for his first term. And that is the impression I got when I shook his hand at a fund raiser (parents took me).

Shook his hand twice, once each election.
