‘ Women's hockey's best players finally have a league of their own ‘
#1
“ While the details remain sketchy — we don't know exactly where the franchises will be located or even what the name of the new league will be — the bottom line is this: players from the archrival Canadian and U.S. women's national teams, which have squared off in so many memorable battles at the Olympics and world championships over the years, will finally compete in a single professional league alongside many of the world's other best players. “

I wonder if I should clean up all of my gear and quit my day job.

Very interesting development. I've been hoping for this to happen, but there were so many forces working against it - money being the biggest factor. The money has been solved by a very rich person - that's good for now, but I hope the league will eventually be able to support itself.

The previous leagues just couldn't pay enough. Most players could not live on what they earned in the league. Even with support, pay is going to be $35-80k. That's a good start, but more work needs to be done.

I love that Billie Jean King was involved - that lady is a powerhouse!

I hope the league works out. Not sure if I will have time or access to watch it. I am more of a highlight watcher these days for all sports. That's all I have the time for.
