Get the Eve Energy outlets. They support HomeKit and Matter.

For HomeKit to work, you need to have an Apple TV or HomePod mini at home to act as a hub.

I would avoid WiFi enabled devices. If you add more, they take ip addresses. Bluetooth can have too short of a range.

What is the protocol for the HomeKit or Matter? from the message above, I infer it is neither WiFi nor Bluetooth.

Both Home (a home automation integration facility) and Matter (a home automation interoperability standard) use Bluetooth, WiFi, and Thread as required. I believe both now prioritize Thread for networking.

I recently got some Kasa Matter KP125M smart plug outlets. These are strictly Wi-Fi based.

The key with Matter is that they will work simultaneously with any of the major smartphone platforms: Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google, Samsung.

Currently I can tell Siri to turn on the Kasa outlet, and tell Alexa to turn it off. Before Matter this wasn't possible.

Matter is at the application layer, above the network / transport layer.

BTW, Thread devices are also appearing on the market. Thread operates at the network layer, primarily replacing Bluetooth & WiFi. This offers three advantages: much more power efficient, less wi-fi congestion, lower latency.

Eve has Matter over Thread smartplugs which are tempting, but very pricey currently.

Wow, those are pricey! I cannot wait for Matter-supported devices to come DOWN in price and not be the high-end.
