Presidian dual-format dvd-recorder $79.99 @ Radioshack (After $50 rebate)
Seems to be a good basic DVD recorder (but no S-video)
This is basically a rebadged Lite-on 11. . .
This Presidian DVD recorder features dual-format disc writing and the ability to play most disc formats. Also includes an Easy Guider on-screen guide for simple 1-touch recording.

* Playable discs include DVD±R/RW, DVD video, CD-R/RW, SVCD, VCD, Audio CD, MP3 CD, WMA CD and JPEG CD

As stated, sometimes Radioshack doesn't have the sale price listed in-store but make sure it rings up correctly.
Supposedly, it can be made region free. . .
Not 100% sure that the region free hack will work. Saw it mentioned that it didn't work but the person said using a CD and this region free hack uses just the remote. So no guarantees that it will be region free.
REGION FREE HACK:
Go to the setup menu, scroll down to "exit" and leave your indicator there. Then enter 2960 on your remote,press enter and up pops the secret menu that allows you to access the region code and change it to "region free."
