Issue pulling data off of PowerBook G4
#1
Another issue I am helping my friend out with is in regards to this computer:

PowerBook G4 (10.5.8)

I wish I had written this question several weeks back when he was showing me this problem, things we tried were a little fresher in my mind. Bottom line is though, when we try to copy his data (single files or groups of files) onto different media options (SD Card, external harddrive, etc), we keep getting this dialog box text:

The item “file name” cannot be copied because there is not enough free space.

Tried reformatting the drives that we were working with from the G4 and also from the computer it was going to (Sierra). Same dialogue text shown above on any file we tried to copy from G4 onto any media (SD Card, external drive, etc). I think we repaired permissions on the G4 too, if I recall correctly.

I was thinking of trying Target mode on the PowerBook G4, but thought I would step in here and see what the folks here think I can have him try…

What type of format did you format the cards/drives to?

I know we did Mac OS Extended, pretty sure we tried FAT too.

I already have that kind of gear for plugging drives into, I could try that if he’s open to it.

try the target mode - anything to get away from dealing with the PB being booted, but I agree with Taingou - I would have pulled the drive on step one.
