AMEN! If people who bash schools ever got into a public school classroom for a few days, they would quickly modify their views. IMHO, it has never been more challenging to teach in than today, even in nice suburban schools. Why? I believe the primary reason is that both student behavior and parental involvement have dramaticaly declined in the last 5-10 years.
So whose fault is this? Obviously, it is neither the teacher's or the union's fault. But as deckeda points out, it is always easier to blame the front line (the schools) so you don't have to think about the real problem, which is a lot more complex and harder to solve.
