Valet parking tip

People here indignantly moan about tipping food delivery after driving a couple of miles in a personal car to deliver piping hot food to their front door. Tipping someone $10 to move your car 50ft back and forth in/out of a parking spot? Come on now. I'm surprised the torch and pitchfork crew isn't out in full force.

My understanding is if you tip at drop off it is to get a better spot for your car so it can be retrieved more quickly at pick up.
My inlaws usually just tipped at pick up, unless they wanted to get the car quickly.
We usually went to valet restaurants with them.
I don’t like valet. I don’t like other people driving my car. I never have. Lol
Years ago, $5 was the norm. Fancy places now probably more like $10, but that’s a guess as I haven’t used valet in a while.

Yeah, ok.

That's a parking spot the customer wouldn't have access to in the first place, and would instead have to park on the street.

Oh the shame of entitlement as one chooses not to avail them.

I find the expectation of receiving a tip more problematic than someone providing one.

Short of offering graft, is tipping just an American tradition/policy?

Some cultures find it offensive, as I am certain so some people here as well.

To them, it's a insult and level of extortion respectively.

I’m at one of my favorite hotels enjoying a few nights away from home. The parking garage is inconvenient so I don’t mind paying as we do this once a year or so. Thanks for all the helpful comments. I feel better about the tipping now.
