Iran launches drones at Israel in retaliatory attack
#41
I hope the defense works!!!

So glad that it worked. We don't need more victims, and more reasons for Israel to push the pedal to the metal and accelerate the war.

This morning, Hamas said in a statement: 'We in Hamas regard the military operation conducted by the Islamic Republic of Iran a natural right and a deserved response on the crime of targeting the Iranian consulate in Damascus and the assassination of several leaders of the Revolutionary Guards,' The Times of Israel reports.

Of course it is not justified. Who said or even implied that?

but it can be explained as a retaliation to the Israel attack on their embassy.

This.

Why did Israel attack an embassy in a third party country? I don'want to, but I'm more and more thinking of the political survival mentioned above. The idea that it was to prevent future attacks is just stupid. That logic implies that preemptive attacks on diplomatic missions are never out of bounds, it feeds into endless war theories that have put our world into its current state.

If it's justified for Israel to assasinate enemies in diplomatic missions in third countries, why not Russia bombing diplomatic compounds in Scandinavia to kill some Ukrainians that could be there, along with whomever else?

Putin will encourage the Mullahs to continue their attacks to keep the US attention on the middle east. Ukraine will be pushed further to the back burner and Putin's forces will inexorably advance. The cowardly Rapist would claim peace and capitulate if re-elected.

Israel and Russia seem to be trying (independently) to "normalize" assassination.

Both leaders need to cling on to power.

I hate to take this on a warmongering tangent, but were Russia to attack embassies within any of the Scandinavian nations or Baltic states that would put us on the brink of global thermonuclear war and NATO would have to retaliate under Article 5.

But embassies in Georgia or Moldova or Korea or India or Mongolia would be fair game.

I'm not saying I want either of these things to happen... but they do tend to become self limiting.

My hope for this Iranian attack is that the US and proximate nations have proven their willingness to defend Israel and that no gentle terms are being spoken to Bibi that next time Iran shoots, for example if Israel proceeds with its Rafa invasion, there will be no defense.

And yes, I hate to see so much focus on Israel and Palestine when the freedom of over 40 38 million Ukrainians is at stake. (The population of the Ukraine prior to Russia's 2022 invasion was over 40 million, it looks like 3-5 million people fled to the rest of Europe and the US.
