remixing music in Atmos from 4 track
#1
Bob Clearmountain on 'Music From Big Pink'

this is a brief interview with Bob Clearmountain whose name appears on the back of at least one of your LPs if you ever listened to pop, R&B or RnR.

Bob talks about the technology developed by Peter Jacksons team to extract individual parts from 4 track masters (like the Beatles Get Back) so that he can remix for Atmos.

He plays examples of the original 4 track tapes recorded in early '68 and then the extracted individual performances. It's pretty amazing.

When I initially heard an Atmos demo at AES for some action heavy film, I was impressed, but I don't work or care much about that genre so .....

Bobs simple approach to mixing in general and his low-key non-rock star attitude will make for something worthwhile when it is released.

In the right hands for the right things, Atmos could be pretty interesting.
In the wrong hands with the wrong thing, it could be a big bucket o' mess.

Bob and Shelly Yakus, who was one of the engineers for the original tracks, are 2 of the nicest people I've ever been fortunate enough to spend time with.

Music is how we decorate time.”

Check out Dark Side of Moon in Atmos on AppleMusic. Its fantastic.

When it first came out, some tracks did not sound good, vocals seemed to be out of phase, etc. There was a Rush and a Sheryl Crow track that was not good, but seem to have been redone.

Free's "All Right Now" fell into this category the last time I listened to it - don't know whether it's been fixed since then.
