Comedy: 'Trump will not testify in own trial'

bone spurs, again

Trump will not testify in own trial

Donald Trump will not take the stand in his own criminal trial, after his defense lawyers rested their case on Tuesday morning after calling just two witnesses.

The former president previously said he would “absolutely” testify in his hush money trial, telling reporters last month:

I’m testifying. I tell the truth, I mean, all I can do is tell the truth. And the truth is that there is no case.

Trump has repeatedly falsely claimed that he is not allowed to testify because of a court-imposed gag order. In fact, judge Juan Merchan’s order does not in any way stop Trump from testifying.

It would have been very stupid for him to take the stand. Once he did, everything is fair game. The defense made the case about Cohen, if Trump went on the stand it could have easily been about him and that would have been a mistake.

the defense already screwed up with Costello, it didn't need Trump misfiring as well.

Now each juror has a week to think about everything they heard before even going into deliberations.

What is the definition of 'guilty'?

Based on second-hand descriptions, I suspect the jury is going to be sympathetic to a loser who has an even greater loser on his team (Cohen).

If he ever had any doubt about whether or not to testify, I think the way the judge eviscerated Costello for his antics probably scared Trump away from the idea even more.

Why would Cohen get a mortgage on his house to pay off a porn star that had a dynamite story to tell about Trump at a REALLY bad time politically? What benefit was that to Cohen? This was either a rogue thing Cohen and some cohorts cooked up or Trump okayed it. Why would Cohen go rogue to benefit only Trump and endanger his own financial standing? The rogue thing just isn't believable. I hope the jury uses common sense to see that Trump's defense just doesn't pass the common sense smell test.

At this point I'd guess that either he never had any intention of testifying or that early on he was shown the error of his ways and in a rare moment of clarity, realized it would be a mistake.

In either case, ramping up the 'I want to but they won't let me' rhetoric no doubt serves him well when preaching to his cult members from the courthouse pulpit.

Most likely his attorneys all said they would resign if he testified. They cannot suborn perjury.

They don't need to suborn a damn thing.

They know P45* would start lying the second he opened his mouth, against their counsel.

Well, after being sworn in.
