Why is my Mac not recognizing the Keyboard made by this unknown company?

It looks like it's not giving you the setup drill for an unknown keyboard.

Have you tried unplugging/plugging it?

Restarting?

DFA?

(Yeah, that's a lot like rebuilding your desktop; just don't defrag your SSD, if you have one.)

I've never had it stop at that screen.

And I've had that screen with an Apple keyboard.

But the drill accomplished the setup.

That's exactly what it tried to do, and I get this screen every once in a while. Maybe when I leave the Mac unplugged for a long time, or maybe when I change the USB port. I am not sure what triggers it. But it behaves like I need to teach the Mac what keyboard this is. You know, press the control to the left side of the keyboard, then the shift on the right side, etc.

I cancelled, restarted and it didn't complain.

I'd suspect the keyboard isn't identifying itself as it should.

Is it plugged directly into the Mac?

If so, I guess you're doing all that can be done at this point, short of getting a new copy or different keyboard.

What happens when you hit the 'Continue' button?

yes keyboard is plugged directly into the Mac.

if I hit Continue, it asks me to press various keys, which I did about a dozen times before... Just skipped it this time and Keyboard appears to work anyway, I restarted the Mac and did not get the message upon restart. As I said, it's a random thing, it usually happens when I unplug the Mac from the wall or when I change the USB port.

You can just quit it when that message pops up.

If you haven't got some obscure USB device masquerading as a keyboard, it should work without going through the Setup Assistant.

That’s what I did. I’m a little confused why this happens with an Apple keyboard.
I would be perfectly fine if this happened when I connected a non Apple keyboard.

Anyway, first world problems, I know.

I don't have an answer, but these kind of things if there are enough are the kind of things to drive you nuts.
