Porch kitty question
#21
Sol is not an orange. Either the fruit or the cat variety Confusedmiley-laughing001:

I’ll see about uploading a picture of him. I just have to remember how/figure it out.

Maybe this? Woah, too big!!!!

It sounds like she's comfortable around you, but very particular about the interactions she will tolerate. She very well might be adoptable by someone who understands cats and is tolerant of their individual idiosyncrasies. A friend of mine has two cats she acquired as young kittens, and each one has specific and different preferences about being picked up and by who, and where they prefer to be skritched. Neither one enjoys being picked up much, but they will sometimes crawl on top of sleeping people in the middle of the night, as long as they think it's THEIR idea.

Has porch kitty been examined by a vet? Sometimes areas of sensitivity can be the result of physical problems that can be treated. Another friend of mine had a rescue cat who would try to eat the face off of anyone who touched her. And yet, she would sit in the middle of the room whenever there was company. Eventually the vet found a persistent sore in the middle of the cat's back. Once the sore was treated, the cat transformed into a total lovebug.

Nevertheless you would probably need to find someone to adopt her yourself.

I was told by the head of the local volunteer TNR org here that she'd likely be unadoptable if she won't allow herself to be picked up. I think a big part of that is a local issue here -- we simply have so many strays/ferals and all the shelters are always full. So I was advised to keep her as a porch cat, as many here apparently do.

As for her being checked out by a vet, when I TNR'd her (with the volunteer org's help), they bring all the kitties to the vet for spay/neuter, but I presume it's only the most basic of checkups.

Porch kitty seems generally healthy, if somewhat skittish. She's definitely made my porch her territory... and as some of you here might know, I set up a fairly nice pair of shelters for her on my porch, so that she can sleep or hide in them if the weather's bad. The only thing I've noticed about her health-wise is a bit of hair loss in some spots, which the TNR person told me is likely due to a flea allergy, that she is constantly licking those areas.

I'm pretty sure her pickiness is indeed the food. I just tried putting out some treats, and sure enough, she gobbled those up. So this one brand is apparently not her thing.

Since you TNRd her, with that belly, I’d say she looks well fed. If you hadn’t neutered her, I’d be suspicious…

Yes, she does look well fed. If she loves the treats, you may be able to convince her to eat the treats out of your hand with a little patience.

Patience is, I guess, the key word here. I've tried to get her to eat treats out of my hand... she just won't do it, it has to be out of my hand for her to eat them. She's also not afraid to use her claws on me if she's not getting what she wants.

Looks happy healthy to me. And quite adoptable. It's she wants to be.

Diana, your handsome Sol looks exactly like my Ivan Cat. And although Ivan is a pretty big boy — too large to be a comfortable lap kitty — he's only ~15 or 16 lbs., so Sol is definitely a forum champion! :hail:
