I'm Testing Out Omni-Web!
#11
From the FAQ:

"Rendering Engine:
OmniWeb 5.5 is now based off a slightly customized version of WebKit. This means greatly improved website compatibility, speed and stability. Many rendering and compatibility issues users have been experiencing should now be addressed."

I don't think they are using a newer version, I think they are just modifying it to have the additional capabilities of omniweb. I haven't experienced any "improved website compatibility" over safari myself.

I know for a fact it's a newer version than what Safari has. Yes, they have customized it a bit too, but the core is still newer.

Here's some suggestions on how to figure it out yourself:
1. Go to http://www.rexswain.com/cgi-bin/httpview.cgi with both OW and Safari. Notice that Safari says AppleWebKit/418.9.1 and OW says AppleWebKit/420+
2. Go to the Omni forum and search around. You'll find posts like this one from Len Case (one of the senior devs) http://forums.omnigroup.com/showthread.php?t=877&highlight=newer+version+webkit
Or this one from troyb http://forums.omnigroup.com/showthread.php?t=847&highlight=newer+version+webkit
OmniWeb and Safari are both based on WebKit but not the same version. OmniWeb uses a snapshot of the WebKit currently under development on Where as Safari uses the system WebKit which is based on a slightly older version.
3. Contact Omni support. There's a good chance it'll be troyb who responds, and he'll let you know that the WebKit OW currently has is newer than that of Safari. Also, some of the changes they've made have been to pick pieces out of even newer releases of webkit.
