HD won't mount
#1
Hi There

I have an external Lacie 500 GB HD on a G5 running 10.4.7

Suddenly the drive was acting weird. I couldn't move folders around ....... hmm, but I could write to the drive with no problems. I repaired it with DU and Disk Warrior ..... no problems. I unmounted a few times ...... still couldn't move folders around.

When I tried to change permission, it wouldn't let me. Then it got weirder and weirder.

Now it's mounting, but then it doesn't show up on the desktop. It shows up in DU ..... and I can eject and unmount, but still not on the desktop.

Please Help.

HD's are checked in Finder Prefs

It shows up on a PC with no problems ........ it has to be something with ownership and permissions on a mac. I did try to change stuff in there, and that's when it got really weird.

Is there a ownership and permission fixer ?

This did the trick

sudo chmod u+rwx /Volumes/Small\ Big\ Mofo\ 467\ GB

Was it the "Mofo" part?

Anyway, you could have done the same thing with the Get Info window--no need for the command line voodoo.

not true ........ you can't get info when the drive is NOT on the desktop.
