Our 12 lb 7 year old terrier mutt has been prescribed Rimadyl from recent anal abscess drainage. I have read an article about Rimadyl's potential severe side effects which including damage to the liver and the kidneys. Oddly, the vet never once mentioned. I would like to know the pros and cons from any dog/cat owner who has used this med. I have already administered the med to our dog once daily. There are three more to go. TiA

I have used it in two dogs- it is toxic long term - I would advise the shortest term and lowest dose possible.
If longer term dosing is necessary, blood work done frequently to assess liver and kidney function is important.

the follow-up exam is the Sat after this coming one. By that time, our doggie will be done with the medicine. He seems to be doing alright, i.e. normal routines. So I don't think we need to finish off the med. However, I continue to administer his antibiotic. Oh, yeah, we are looking for another vet. Thank you all!
