I have an iMac Intel (early model). I was using it yesterday and pow!!! it quits on me. It seemed like the power was turned off on the computer. It was a little to get it restarted but after two or three times it did. It worked fine for a little bit and then POW!!! again, it just quits on me. These crashes were when i was running different application. After another time of this happening I keep it off all night unplugged. I then restart it again and after a few minutes(maybe 10 or so) it quits and crashes. I call the Apple help desk and after resetting PRAM, repairing the HD, and running Tech Tools the tech says it is probably a hardware issue. Now the light on the bottom right corner of the iMac comes on but the monitor will not.
It sounds like to me like the logic board. Any other suggestions?

No point in trying to guess really - you can't know until you do a lot of work on it.
It IS covered under warranty - right?

Sounds like power supply issues. The crowbar circuitry will kill power to the load (CPU, disk, monitor) when it detects excessive current draw or voltage drop (detects a short circuit condition).
Time to call the mothership; phone home, E.T.
Is there an Apple store nearby that you could have the resident genius to look over your iMac?

I concur with TheCaber.
BTW, this is also a little clue from the Overlords that you need a UPS with APR if you don't already have one. If you don't know what those initials mean (hint: nothing to do with brown), look it up.
PS. Just to be clear -- I'm NOT saying that a lack of a UPS caused this problem. I'm saying that if you don't have a UPS, a new machine just back with a new power supply that you want to keep like new is a darn fine reason to buy a UPS.
