I wake up this morning and my MacBook's fan is going full blast and everything is frozen. I hit the power button to shut it down and power it back up, but I just get a gray screen, and a I hear a clicking sound coming from the hard drive.
I guess I'm heading down to the Genius Bar tomorrow morning...

take the battery out. unplug it.
leave it the hell alone for about an hour.
put the battery back in.
see if that works.
What has probably happened is that your machine was closed while still running, and went into a heat coma. The machine may have gotten hot enough to burn out the HD, but perhaps not.
Let us know.

Well, I had not left the lid closed. It was just sitting on my desk overnight running.
I can boot from the install CD, but when I run Disk Utility, it does not see the hard drive. I think it's a goner.

Mine died suddenly & without warning a couple of weeks ago. Called Apple the next day, got the box & sent it out on Thursday & had it back on Tuesday. Mine sits on a cooling pad with 3 fans & the internal fan rarely ever comes on (as long as I remember to turn the thing on).
