Mid repair report: Lost my firewire curse + a deal

dual G5 2.0, no FW 400 or 800

still havent been able to fix it -- booted from another internal drive, tried another user, unplugged everything for 10 minutes, reset PMU, cant find my hardware repair disc, TTPro doesnt see the firewire 400 or 800 bus

stopped by frys and bought a generic 2 port FW PCI card, picture had 3 external + 1 internal port, $19 -- check out was $12.99 + $5 rebate = $9 total =)

got home -- card in box was 2 port external, 1 port internal, bah

plugged it in, no software to install, worked instantly

still not sure why my FW isnt working, dont have time to diagnose right now...

The one time mine went out on a G4 DP, after trying all that you described someone here suggested that I reinstall the OS

I did an archive and install and that fixed it. Not fun but it did work

jdc, I'm gonna do the same. I have only 1 FW port working right now, and it is still acting flakey. Without explanation, my Mac now recognizes one drive that I gave up for dead (that's what I get for calling tech support) and can't find my other drive that never gave me a problem.
