Funny. My wife collects OLD fisher price and has them carefully displayed and believe it or not, my 29 month old knows to stay away from them. Sure, he'll walk up to them and shake the dogs tail on the pull toys or occasionally take a pocket radio over to mom so she can wind it up but for the most part, he leaves them alone. What I don't get is that my son and our friends kids all have "NEW" fisher price "LITTLE PEOPLE" and they all seem to enjoy them "KIND OF"... However, when we go somewhere where they have "older" fisher price little people and pull toys they are drawn to it like there is no tomorrow. I've never seen my son get that excited over new Fisher Price like he does for the Old.
Maybe fisher price should just remake all the old stuff but making it safer. I'd say that they could make it safer by just using the new style people and call it a day.
So, do your children like the old fisher price toys better than the new fisher price toys? Just wondering.

Out of curiosity, where were the old-school toys made?
I wonder if they were made domestically, or if we were outsourcing to another country before we started pumping billions of dollars into the Chinese military, er.. economy.

The classic "little People" didn't pass the new choking test. It seems (IMHO) that all children's toys must be completely cast as one unit and be larger than a baby's head. The net result is that they are no damn fun to play with.
Further IMHO, the big issue is that parents allow their children to play totally unsupervised. Sure, when mine were little I'd hand them a toy and work on something, but I was usually in the same room and peeked at them every few moments to make sure that they were all right and enjoying themselves. You develop parent radar.

Maybe the kids want to play with the old ones because they are familiar with them and are not allowed to? Kind of a forbidden fruit situation.

Maybe... However, we've been to friends homes who have "COOL NEW FISHER PRICE" sets... However, he always goes towards the older "RETRO TOYS". Almost as if they are more exciting.
