Could have been the Honda at #1 since the inclusion of the VW stunned my brain into shock. I still do not believe it and the occurrence of repair statistics back me up. The Germans do not build reliable cars. Only the Brits top them in glitches. Oh and the Renaults foisted on an unsuspecting US public many, many years ago by the French.
It cannot be true but faulty sampling or poor research design. The Rabbit was one of the worst cars ever built along with the other post bug models and that cannot be overcome easily. Ever saw a Jetta that lasted past 80,000 miles or way less?

[quote macphanatic]I have yet to meet anyone that has a VW that would buy another. Does the Mini hold resale value due to limited (in a relative sense) production?
Well meet one here. How do you do?
Most vw owners I've met, have owned multiple VWs. VW, you like them or you don't. Macs, the same.

Does anybody in your immediate family own a dealership?

I'm on my second Passat, and am considering a 3rd next year. They've been terrific - comfortable, handle well, decent gas mileage, trouble-free.
If you go to edmunds.com and read their forums, every car make and model has problems.
I believe that you are transferring late 80's/90's reliability issues to todays cars. Just not the same...

2003 Diesel Jetta here and I would buy another one in a second if they didn't hold their value so well. People are paying too much for them now. I'd sell mine but then I wouldn't have a car with great torque that gets 50+ mpg.
Mine has 108,000 miles, last I checked thats more than 80,000.

Driving a '97 Eurovan camper with just shy of 100,000 miles on the odo. Have had problems, but nothing een near deal breaking. Has VR6 engine, which seems to be bullet-proof. Overall, very happy, and like someone said, you like 'em or don't -- between us, my wife and I have owned one of every model of VW camper ever built, as well as a couple of Beetles, and some of those bad boys were DOGS.
