[quote spearmint][quote Cary]I'd recommend EV-DO service over the AT&T - faster, more coverage. Sprint is better than Verizon - faster on independent speed tests, no cap to usage (Verizon's unlimited = 5GB/mo.), etc. $60/mo, averages 600 - 900 KBps down, 300 - 400 up in Rev. A areas (over 200 million POPs)

Have been with AT&T for seven years for phone. Unbelievable coverage. Only in mountains camping was not able to get dial tone. Friends breaking up I know are not on AT&T.
There is a big difference between voice coverage and broadband wireless coverage. AT&T has nothing that comes close in terms of speed or breadth of coverage for wireless broadband. They don't have the technology or the spectrum to be able to offer it.

What Cary said is true, Sprint has the best coverage and speed for wireless broadband.

The Associated Press equips their reporters and photographers with Sprint cards for data even though they use Verizon for voice.

What AllGold said. Having spent time in an RV with a Internet satellite, it is simply not the way your friend wants to go. Expensive, bulky, hard to point correctly, adds to gas mileage (it's really bulky on the roof), and slow as snot.

Compare that to a 4-ounce device you plug into the side of your Mac. And now, the devices also can plug into a USB slot, so MacBooks are eligible.

This is what I've been trying to tell her, but I'm not getting too far. Sad Thanks for the real world comment. I'll pass it along and see if it makes a difference, but I'm thinking not. Thank you.
