Just bought ($149 Staples) first GPS nav device. Navigon 2100. Nice, but are there any that import (Mac) addresses?-gcti

$149 is the lowest price this unit has seen. I like the display, options, and text-to-speech (speaks road names).

It's a little low on the POIs (points of interest) at 1. 3 or so million. Already, I've noticed it missed some stuff on my first 3 mile drive.

I wonder how this is compared to the Tom Tom One (3) that was widely available for a little cheaper price? I'll have to compare it to the guy who bought one at work, side by side. It won't hurt them to be side-by-side, I suspect. Smile

Okay, the biggest time-saving factor I think would be the ability to import address (destinations to GPS nav systems).

Gotta go play with it now. Smile

A GPS with text-to-speech for $150 is a very good deal, IMO. I wouldn't worry too much about address importing. Unless you have a ton of them, I think it's a small price to pay for the money you saved.

I just noticed the initial charge out of the box has drained and connected it to the closest USB connector I could find to charge it. That is connected to a hub to this computer. Now, the screen on the Navigon depicts it being connected to a computer. So, it KNOWS it's connected. But I have no clue what that means or does. No manual/guide came with it, really. So, I'll go to the website.

I just got a Garmin Nuvi 650. It came with only a quick start guide, but there is a very nice manual online. I actually think this is a good idea--very green. I don't see why the box needs to be so big though; I guess it keeps people from putting the unit under their coat too easily.

I am really attracted to these things but question the distraction. The only one I have seen is my sister's in her highlander and she now has to have it to go anywhere. The oral directions are not only cool but will keep your eyes on the road more. Maybe just listening is not the distraction cellphones are. Less concentration. Truly amazing technology reasonably priced. Who would have dreamed of these things 15 or less years ago? I still want my flying car and vacation on Moon though, should have happened by now.
