Unless you're running Leopard, then AJ is a no go!
AJ works on Tiger and earlier. Is there a version for Leopard?

watch out those CC warranties, AMEX used to do it, not anymore. I am not sure, I think they now offer 90 days instead of 12 months.

AMEX still does it. Both my Plat and my low end Blue have it. They double the warranty for up to 1 additional year.

I just looked at their web site and it still shows Blue Cash as having the "up to one additional year" verbage, so I wonder what is going on. Over the past few years AMEX has been skinning all the decent perks. If they axe this one I'll drop my Blue for sure.

Would that AmEx could solve this particular problem....

Was this a visit with an Apple Genius, perhaps?
Or a mail-in repair?

[quote mrlynn][quote Chupa Chupa]If by three trips in the repair shop then you have reached Apple's magic number for a "lemon." Talk to a higher up at AppleCare, mention the 3 tripper, no fixer, and they will send you a new machine.
And then they'll polish up Martin's machine and it will end up in the 'Refurbished' section of the Apple Store to bedevil some other poor soul. I don't use Bluetooth, but my refurb MBP has problems waking up sometimes (doesn't detect second monitor, even though that's where the menus and Dock are), and problems shutting down (some apps won't quit, even forced). I haven't had the energy or time to follow the Apple boards to see if these are more general problems, so I just put up with the idiosyncracies. It's still a wonderful computer. Even when Safari ups and quits on me now and then. Then, just like my old classic Macs, it wants restarting. /Mr Lynn they did that with my 3rd gen iPod. After lemon #3, I got a new 30 gig video as a replacement.

Just logged on my Amex account to verify services and can confirm that the services they provide to me have not been lessened as far as I can tell.
Actually, for some reason, I was under the impression that they got rid of the "Return Protection" program, but it is listed, so that's good news. As far as extended warranty, excerpts from the official benefit detail PDF: The Buyer's Assurance Plan mirrors manufacturers' warranties for covered products purchased entirely with your Card account, up to one additional year (up to three additional years for Centurion Card members). and If you purchase an additional service contract or extended warranty with a product which is otherwise eligible under the Buyer's Assurance Plan, and the combined coverage provided by both the original manufacturer’s warranty and the purchased service contract does not exceed five years, then the product is eligible for coverage under the Buyer's Assurance Plan. The Buyer's Assurance Plan will extend the warranty time period and mirror coverage of the original manufacturers' warranty up to one additional year after both the original manufacturer’s warranty and the purchased service contract have expired. This is Business Gold, so YMMV on other cards.

It was a maili-in repair.
Today, it has not yet exhibited said problem. So far through three wake-from-sleep cycles. (The second return from Applecare saw the computer problem-free for almost two full days). It happened immediately after Friday's most recent return from Applecare. Hard to duplicate in 'regular' use. With 90% regularity I can cause the problem by powering on three bluetooth devices (both my keyboards, and the mouse); then after a sleep cycle or two, just power off a keyboard. After the "lost connection' icon fades away, there is indeed NO bluetooth connection on any device. Must force a shut-down, even after using keyboard on laptop to shut down computer. Okay at the moment, but it is only a matter of time. Harrumph. Anyone need a shipping carton for a laptop? I have two at the moment.... |
