Mac Pro Memory benchmarking
#1
Looking for benchmark data for Mac Pros with different memory amounts. Found some info for other Apple systems on OWC's website, but nothing specific to Mac Pros.

depends on what you are doing with it?

I've got the 2.66 with 3 gig of ram. (stock 2 x 512 and OWC 2 x 1 gig). Occasionally get the beachball when doing multiple items such as handbrake, web surfing, image editing (minor). Thinking about adding 4 gig.

3 gigs should be way more than enough

although handbrake uses a lot of processor

on my 24" AL iMac i have 4 gigs, i run quark 7, photoshop, illustrator, indesign, acrobat, suitcase, the entire office suite and safari with at least 10 tabs

i never see a beach ball...

but if i had a macpro i would have at least 8 gigs

3GB's is not enough for a MacPro, despite the sworn testimony of a fellow forum folk who've never touched one.
Your MacPro has Four CPU's, think about a minimum of 6GB's.

my mp 2.66 has 9gb's. Doing some heavy lifting in FCP Studio and CS3 as well as ripping DVDs, I have yet to get a spinning beach ball. I've maxxed out the processor load, but things still run. With memory being so cheap, it seemed like kind of a no-brainer when I was purchasing it.
