Crap ... looks like my iPhone headphones have bit the dust... better replacement?

They're these ones:

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/We...o=814B6A7B&fnode=home/shop_iphone/iphone_accessories&nplm=MA814LL/A

... simply put, they suck. The sound is excellent, but the build quality of the cord is lousy, and the microphone just stopped working entirely. (Plus, though the double-click on the microphone to go forward on the song being played is nice, it would also have been nice to have an inline volume control.) Anyone have suggestions on a good replacement set?

You broke them already?!!!!! Smile Just tell people the little guys ate them and everybody will think that's adorable.

AD, actually, it just occurred to me that they should be under warranty. I don't believe I did anything particularly bad to them; they literally just stopped working. (And it's very specific in how they stopped working -- only the microphone isn't working, either for speaking or clicking... so I'm guessing mechanical fault.)

Funny that you mention this. I'm having the same issue, kinda. The right side doesn't really work, yet the button still does.

I'll be dropping by the Apple Store on Thursday. I'll report back.
They better replace them...

The Apple Store will replace them, no questions asked. If you are not near a store then call the support number and they'll send you a new pair.

I underestimated these when I first had my iPhone. I used a higher fidelity pair of earbuds instead, never even took the Apple ones out of their packaging, I had several Apple earbuds from various iPods I'd owned, and always dismissed them right away.

It wasn't until a friend pointed out that little clicker button (it's barely visible, if you don't know about it, you'd miss it) then I started using them. I added EarJam clip ons (to make it fit my ears better, and slightly improves the audio quality) now I really like the default Apple stereo earbuds for my iPhone. Glad to know Apple will replace them should they prematurely stop working.

My major complaint with the Apple iPhone earbuds is the fit as in there isn't any. The earbuds always seem like they are ready to fall out since the only keeping them in place in my ears is gravity. I guess could try the foam covers first, although I never had this issue with the iPod pack-in headphones with or without the foam covers.

Apple is replacing them at no cost, BUT...

They really gave me a hard time about it... wanted to charge me the $30 for a replacement set. I called BS, since if there were an Apple Store near me, I'd just take them there, but I'm pretty much in the middle of nowhere as far as Apple is concerned.

Frankly, the build quality on these sucks, and there should really be a cheap, better alternative.
