[quote kj]The problem is that we'd have to agree what the truth actually is, which is probably not going to happen. You have to admit there's a fair amount of hyperbole that's given a pass because it's comedy. I don't know how a person would prove it influences people, but I believe it does, purely because I talk to people that repeat the stuff all the time. kj.
i would agree.....would you mind taking a "headlines" clip and giving us the conservative "play-by-play"? it really would be interesting, as the people I watch it with all like him...and as I heard once, "When all think alike, no one thinks very much."
Would you like me to pick the clip. Even if we disagree on the points made, at least then I'll understand...
thanks

Ok, I will be your spectacle, when I get the time. I'll just look at the first one, which I'm sure will be plenty. Remember I said I do think it's funny. I just don't give it much credit for being the "truth". kj.

seriously, kj, i don't mean to make you a spectacle. personally, I'm a believer that much of our collective political and religious polarization is grounded in our subconscious interpretations of our past experiences and, ergo, in many cases, ends up being brain-related....
my hunch is that I will completely understand where you are coming from, but just have a philosophical disagreement. But kinda wanted to test it

"Faux News" is fanspeak for "I watch it regularly, but pretend I hate it".
Fox News, contrary to frequent distortions by uninformed critics, draws relatively equal audience share among Democrats and Republicans alike. Interestingly, if progressives and activists and vegetarians and environmentalists and Ralph Nader fans and socialists and Whole Foods employees and Obama supporters and blue-collar Democrats claim to hate it so much, damn, they sure do watch it religiously.
Fox News Network and the "Daily Show" aren't the same mediums. "The Daily Show" is a PROGRAM ON a network, not a network. Fox News, just like other networks, has dozens of shows, news programming, opinion programs, newsmagazine programs, weather, etc. Comparing an entire network to a single one hour program ON a network makes absolutely no sense.
The Daily Show does get really good guests, and is as informed, or more informed than actual news/opinion shows it competes with. It's more than just entertainment, for some, it serves as a substitute for news programming. Much of which is out-of-touch, ego-driven, and intolerable. It's a brilliant show. Irony and humor are more revealing and engaging than the yelling and stonewalling theatrics we commonly see on newsmagazine shows.

Which is part of its problem. In order to fill the 24 hour news cycle it needs to inject a lot of uninformed speculation. All news channels have this problem.

Jon Stewart just mentioned Obama's problem with Wright and then asked McCain how he's going to deal with his relation with Bush.
Who else has the balls to ask questions like that?

what's amazing is that in 1hr/day, 4 days a week, people end up more informed then from watching fox news, which is on 24/7. That speaks volumes as to the garbage fox - and the other 24hr news networks - put out.
Do you have data on your claim that the people that watch fox news are a normally stratified bunch, across party, etc.? I don't think that's accurate.
Me, I don't even own a TV, so I'm not watching it...
