Anyone build a wooden play structure?

And either rent or buy a 1/2" drill... the standard 1/4" drill will burn out going through 4x4 PT. Get the best drill bit you can afford as well, especially one with a no-break warrenty. I've seen big bits snap going in deep.

I'd suggest putting the whole thing as an achor in the middle of a rubber mulch pit for safety.

If there is a community playground near you, go look at and see what fun things are there that you can recreate.

yea, all of the kits suggest so many inches of mulch or padding under it..
But think back, ALL of us (over 30) grew up on playgrounds with nothing but dirt or grass underneath and we turned out to be a pretty resilient bunch!

So don't let that set ya back on your project.

Went over to Lowes and they had some nice affordable play sets.

Pretty much would just need this and a slide. I could see if there is a 10% off coupon.

I'm going to purchase these instructions and price out wood and material to build it from scratch w/ a plastic slide versus the wood slide.

You got that right! I'm surprised we survived. My youngest son fell at an elem. school
playground about 12 years ago and knocked one of his teeth out on a U shaped piece of
round rod sticking up, no sharp edges. Anyway within 2 days the rods were pulled out of
the ground by a backhoe. The school was in a panic, they thought we were going to sue.
I told them it was just a baby tooth and no big deal.

BTW: Where I went to elem. school we had no playground equip. at all, just trees, bushes,
dirt, grass and an imagination.
